Lingua Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-08-28

Lingua is an iOS app for building your own language — its letters, its words, its grammar — and writing to other people in it. The app is made by Tokine, in Tokyo. These terms apply to everyone who uses it.

Lingua does not tolerate abusive posts or abusive behaviour. Where we find a post that hurts other people, or behaviour such as harassment or impersonation, we remove the post and suspend or delete the account, without notice.

1. Your account

2. Your age

You must be 13 or older to use Lingua. If we find that an account belongs to someone under 13, we delete it.

3. What you make

The languages you build and the posts you write remain yours.

You are responsible for what you post, and you are responsible for having the right to post it.

4. What is not allowed

While using Lingua, you must not:

5. Reporting and blocking

If you find an abusive post or an abusive person, report them from inside the app, or write to us at the address at the bottom of this page. You can also block a person, which is done from inside the app.

6. Removing posts and accounts

Every report is read within 24 hours of being sent. Where the rules above have been broken, we remove the post and suspend or delete the account behind it, without notice.

7. Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the app, and deleting it deletes everything — your profile, your languages, your posts and drafts, and the rest of your records. This cannot be undone.

Lingua keeps backup files of your languages on your device, in the app's Documents folder, and they are included in your iOS backup. Deleting your account removes those too, along with the recordings and the sheets Lingua has written there. Keep your own copy of anything you would not want to lose.

8. Paid plans

Lingua's paid plans are Apple in-app purchases. Apple handles the payment, and refunds are made under Apple's rules, not ours.

9. No advertising

Lingua shows no ads, and contains no third-party analytics.

10. Changes to the app and to these terms

We may change what the app does, or stop offering part of it. We may also change these terms; the new version is published on this page, with a new date at the top, and applies from the moment it is published.

11. Disclaimer

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court is the exclusive court of first instance for any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Lingua.

If you use Lingua as a consumer, none of this takes away the rights that the consumer protection law of the country you live in gives you.
